Peak requirement: 1,300W + 500W = 1,800W. With 25% headroom: 1,800W × 1.25 = 2,250W → the 3,500–4,500W portable class, with real capacity left over even during active pumping. Running this build, step by step
Position both machines before the storm: sump pump already installed in the pit, dehumidifier staged in the basement with its hose run to a drain or the sump pit itself.
During active inflow, power the sump pump alone — its restart cycle repeats every minute or two, and the dehumidifier can wait until the water table settles.
Once inflow slows, bring the dehumidifier online alongside the pump: the staggered-start rule (largest motor last) is already satisfied either way, since the pump’s delta is the larger of the two.
Run both through the multi-day dry-out: a finished basement with wet drywall or carpet needs days of dehumidifying, not hours, so budget fuel for sustained runtime once the pumping phase eases.

Should the sump pump or the dehumidifier come online first?
